California: Soon after reports emerged about malicious developers misusing Apple’s enterprise app policies to release inappropriate apps into the wild, Google Play listed down its own measures in taking care of these rogue apps and developers in the last year.
In its official blog, Google Play notes that in 2018, the service improved its abuse detection technologies and increased its team to fight against bad actors.
The company introduced a series of new policies to protect the users from abuse, detect and remove malicious developers, and stop more malicious apps entering the Google Play Store. The number of rejected app submissions increased by more than 55 per cent, while app suspensions increased by more than 66 percent.
Google Play attributed the stricter crackdown on the mix of automated protections and human review processes. The Google Play Protect system scans over 50 billion apps on users’ devices each day to ensure no bad app makes its way onto the device.
