Google fails to trademark word ‘Glass’

Google was trying to get hold of the word ‘glass’, when written in Google’s stylized marketing logo font, to restrain other companies to copy their computer-enabled eyeglass.

According to Cnet, trade-marking a common term as ‘Glass’ raises some issues, although they have allowed trademark of ‘Google Glass’.

Trademark office sent a letter to Google stating that ‘Glass’ is a generic term and they cannot allow them to trademark it, to which Google replied with a 1928 page letter explaining their case.

Though other companies have managed to obtain trademarks for some commonly used terms, for instance, Facebook holds the trademark for words like ‘Face’ and ‘wall’, Trademark office have not allowed Google to trademark ‘Glass’.(ANI)
