Situation turned violent on Friday night when local residents stoned at goods vehicle and attacked its driver allegedly for causing an accident killing a six-year-old girl on the spot at Gangondanahalli in Chandra Layout.
Mehroon was the daughter of Salawuddin and was studying at Vidya Sagar School.
The angry inhabitants was soothed by the local police and senior officers who immediately rushed to the spot, deployed additional force and brought the situation under control.
According to police,the driver of the goods vehicle lost control over the vehicle after it developed some technical hitch and packed up with two autorickshaws and a bike. Later it scythed Mehroon Taj, who was playing in front of her house. She suffered serious injuries and died on the spot.
On learning about the accident, a large number of residents hurried to the spot and flogged the driver. Soon after, they stoned the goods vehicle. The police took the driver into custody and the situation was returned to normal.
