Goods train engine catches fire, traffic held up briefly

Ambala: The engine of a goods train caught fire between Ambala Cantt and Ambala City railway stations here today, officials said.

The driver of the Punjab-bound train noticed smoke in the engine and stopped it near Jandli village near Ambala City, railway officials said.

Two fire tenders were pressed into service to control the fire. The traffic on Ambala-Ludhiana rail section was disrupted for an hour, they said.

The engine of the train caught fire after a few minutes of its departure from Ambala Cantt, the officials said.

The cause of the fire is not known. The matter is being probed, they said.
