Goods train derails, Jant Satabdi stranded for 2 hrs

Jamshedpur: A goods train bogie was derailed between Noamundi-Badajamda stations under Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway today.

The Howrah-Barbil Jan Satabdi Express was stranded for two hours near Noamundi station in West Singhbhum district as a result, a senior railway official said.

The driver of the Badajamda-bound goods train put the train on reverse gear after it failed to move forward due to technical snag, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Satyam Prakash said.

The train started rolling backward after the attempts to stop it failed, leading to derailment of one of its bogies, the official said.

The driver of another goods train, which was standing at a distance and waiting for the green signal behind the goods train, also put the train on reverse gear to avoid collision.

However, no harm was caused either to the passengers or the train.

Later, the Barbil-bound train left Noamundi station two hours behind schedule after the track was cleared, he said.
