‘Good future for Indian drug firms’

Hyderabad, August 03: “Scientists of research and development (R D) departments in pharmaceutical and drug manufacturing companies should strive to discover new medicines for all kinds of diseases for the benefit of the common man,” said Prof Oliver Reiser, a German scientist involved in chemical technology research.

He was a guest at an international symposium entitled ‘Organic synthesis and human wellbeing: emerging opportunities and challenges’, organised by the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT).

Speaking to mediapersons, Oliver Reiser said the recent policies of the government are helping lead the pharmaceutical industry towards exploring newer avenues of drug development. This will bring more capital into the country. Availability of surplus qualified workforce at a low cost is another advantage for the country, he added.

Dr J S Yadav, director of IICT, said the fourday symposium that started on August 1 provided a forum for discussions on the recent developments in chemical sciences.
