Gondal village sarpanch faces rape charge

Bhopal, Nov 21: An 18-year-old married woman, who belongs to Madhya Pradesh, on Friday accused the sarpanch of Derdi village in Gondal taluka of raping her in the last week of October.

The woman and her husband filed a complaint in this regard with the Court of Judicial Magistrate in Gondal, based on which the court ordered the taluka police to inquire into the complaint. A director of the Gondal Nagrik Bank has also been named as an accused in the case.

According to the complaint, the woman, a labourer by profession, was raped by sarpanch Bipin Donga on October 28. The couple said they filed the complaint late, as Donga had threatened to kill them if they approached the police.

Victim’s lawyer Sachin Darji said the court has ordered the Gondal police to conduct an inquiry under Section 156 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

Darji said the incident occurred at the victim’s house when her husband had gone out for some work. He added that the accused is powerful and influential, so the couple did not file a complaint soon after the incident.

The couple had got married a year ago, after which they shifted here and started working in the sarpanch’s field.
