Gold recovers on global cues, marriage season rush

New Delhi, January 07: Gold prices recovered by Rs 40 to Rs 17,100 per ten gram in the bullion market today on emergence of buying by stockists to meet the marriage season rush for the precious metal and a firming overseas trend.

Standard gold and ornaments both gained Rs 40 each at 17,100 and Rs 16,950 per ten gram respectively while sovereign remained steady at Rs 14,050 per piece of eight gram.

Gold prices in New York market too climbed 20.90 dollar to 1138.10 dollar an ounce.

Silver ready and weekly based delivery remained in demand and added another Rs 80 and Rs 50 to Rs 28,100 and Rs 27,820 per kg respectively.

Marketmen said fresh buying by jewellery fabricators for the ongoing marriage season and reports of steep rise in the prices in global markets mainly worked for gold and silver prices today.
