Gold climbs yet another peak, silver retreats

Mumbai, November 24: Gold prices continued its record-making journey on the bullion market here today supported by sustained local buying interest amid firming prices in New York.

On the other hand, silver retreated from its record high on hectic offloading by stockists.

“Though the yellow metal climbed to yet another historic high in today’s trade, the quantum of jump was minimal,” traders said.

“Gold had a fantastic run recently, and it started to look overbought at this juncture and needed some correction,” they added.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) firmed up by Rs 25 per ten grams to close at Rs 17,635 from overnight closing level of Rs 17,610.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also moved up by Rs 30 to end at Rs 17,725 per ten grams as against Rs 17,695 yesterday.
