A visit to the historic tank reveals heaps of plastic bags, garbage swirling freely with the sewage water, broken fencing and mosquitoes.

Sewage from the nearby localities is discharged into the tank, turning the 460-year-old tank into a cesspool. That is not all. Apart from the garbage, the tank is now covered with a thick sheet of water hyacinth.
