Majority of the TB patients in India are found in Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad and Secunderabad also have large number of TB patients but sadly the TB centres run in twin cities are in a very dismal state. Non-availability of doctors is the major issue. There is also a TB centre in the state where lab technician and his assistant distribute medicines among TB patients.
In an old government hospital at Golconda a TB centre is being run in a derelict building for the past 12 years. The building is in very dilapidated condition. It looks more like haunted house than a building. It may collapse any time. Furthermore an electric pole installed right opposite to the structure has fallen down which is dangling with the support of electric wires. Ironically the patients coming to the TB centre are more scared of the dangling electric wires and dilapidated walls than their own disease.
Nearly 15 patients approach the centre every day but they complain that neither the doctor is available nor the medicines. Special attention of Ministry of Health, collector and public representatives is required for Golconda Government Hospital. The TB centre needs to be shifted at a safe and concrete building.
