Gogoi meets Rajnath to seek Central relief for flood-hit Assam

New Delhi, Aug 27 : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to seek Central relief for the flood-hit people of Assam.

“Assam is affected by floods. More than 18 lakh people have been affected by it and about 27 people have lost their lives. I have asked the Centre to release the money committed by them in the last year,” Gogoi told media after his meeting with Rajnath Singh.

“This year, we have demanded Rs. 500 crores from the Central Government,” he added.

Gogoi further said the Centre has committed to give the state Rs. 200 crores and to adjust the rest of the amount from the state disaster response fund.

“We don’t mind repairing the bridges and the roads and the other infrastructures in the state from our funds but whatever you had committed earlier you should give to the state,” he added.

Floods have disrupted normal life in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Barpeta, Jorhat, Baska, Sonitpur and Dibrugarh are worst affected. (ANI)
