Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today urged Union Power Minister Peeyush Goel to take initiative to allocate adequate coal to Telangana Government enabling it to set up a new thermal power plant besides speedy completion of transmission corridor construction connecting Northern Grid and Southern Grid.
The Union Minister today called on KCR at camp office and promised to take initiative on the formers’ demands. He offered related letters of coal allocations and new lines for power transmission also letters sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on power needs. Goel appreciated the efforts of the chief minister for avoiding power cuts in one year and preparing plans for producing 2500 mw solar power.
As part of making Telangana a surplus state in power sector the chief minister informed the union minister about the initiative being taken which need the central boost. To this Goel agreed to offer necessary cooperation.
KCR apprised that they signed an agreement to get 1000 mw power from Chattisgarh and will similar quantity in future for which transmission lines are essential. He also emphasized the need for speedy completion of 765 kv lines through Vardha-Nizamabad- Hyderabad, Angul-Palasa-Vemagiri- Khammam- Hyderabad and Varora-Warangal lanes. Seeking 29.70 metric tons of coal allocations for 10000 mw production (6000 mw through Genco and 4000 mw through NTPC) KCR also sought divert allocations 3.5 metric tons of coal to Telangana from BPL company for stalling power production as of now. When Goel asked the state government to use only LED lights in streets to save power, KCR said that they have prepared plans to do so in all towns in one year.(NSS)
