Mumbai, July 04: Move over Emraan Hashmi. Akshay Kumar has Hollywood hottie Denise Richards certifying that he is a great smoocher. And he seems to have practised it before with our very own desi sexpot Kareena Kapoor — not once but ten times over in his forthcoming film, Kambhaqt Ishq.
“What to do?” Akshay says in mock modesty. “It’s a new tag and I am fine with it. This role demanded a lot of kisses and I did it.”
Role demanded it? What’s wrong with kissing even if the role didn’t demand it? “No, no, nothing wrong,” he says quickly, “only I am not in favour of doing something zabardasti or just for the heck of it,” he says. Surprisingly, despite all his on-screen machismo, he fights shy of the Don Juan image. “I so didn’t relate to the male chauvinist I play in this movie. This guy thinks he is God’s gift to womankind. Not me. I think if men are from Mars, women are from heaven,” he says.
Having been away “at a great beach resort” with wife Tina and son Aarav, Akshay is now back in the city for the premiere of his next biggie. Is it true that he usually stays away from the premiere of his films for superstitious reasons as rumoured? “That is so off the mark.
If that was true, Garam Masala should have flopped and Chandni Chowk to China should have been a big hit,” he laughs.
For Akshay, the first half of the year was a mixed bag. “Some good, some bad. Chandni Chowk… had too many expectations and yes, Nagesh’s film (Tasveer) did badly. But aren’t you all (the media) the ones who’ve been asking me to do something different? I took your advice and look what happened,” he says with a chuckle. “But, of course, the Padma Shree happened. It was a moment of real pride for me,” he ends, flashing a killer smile.
