Godavari waters to reach city by Dec 2013

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board on Thursday claimed that the Godavari river water will reach Hyderabad by December 2013.

Talking to reporters during the visit to the project site, Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project – Phase I director M Satyanarayana said that the works on the first phase of the project were going as per the schedule. He said about 172 mgpd of Godavari water would be supplied to the city in the first phase.

Satyanarayana said that the government has allocated a budget of Rs 3800 for the project. Of this, Rs 1,400 crore has already been released. An amount of Rs 400 crore has been earmarked in the budget of 2012-13. An additional Rs 2,000 crore would come from the HUDCO, he said. The works in the first phase has been divided into three different packages.

Chief General Manager of Project Circle-1 G Rameshwar Rao told reporters at Kukunoorpally village that the third package of the phase-1 was spread across 58 km. Of this, works on 56 km were on manufacture stage and 21 km at leveling stage. However, he said the officials have been some difficulties due to the existence of 12 acres of land in the forest area.

The entry point in the city for Godavari waters would be Ghanpur. From here, it would be divided into two ring mats. While one ring mat would go to Alwal and Sainikpuri area, another would take the supplies to Lingampally and Kukatpally areas.

Enroute there would be four sub-stations, water cleaning and treatment plants. (INN)
