New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth, who had declared he would follow the philosophy of spiritual politics, on Tuesday, said only god and people were behind him and not the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Talking to reporters in Chennai on his return from a spiritual tour to the Himalayas, he also said the state government should put additional pressure on the Central government to set up the Cauvery Management Board.
When asked about meeting some BJP leaders during his spiritual tour and the allegations that he is backed by the party, Rajinikanth dismissed claims that the BJP was supporting him, saying it was “only god and people were behind him”.
On the Ram Rajya Rath Yatra that entered Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, he said the state is secular and the government should provide security to it and prevent any communal flare ups.
On his political plans, he said that his next course of action will be taken after appointing district level office bearers for his yet-to-be-formally-launched party.
The superstar, who recently took the plunge into politics, visited Siva cave in Jammu, and went to Rishikesh and Dharamshala as part of his spiritual tour.
He faced flak before he left for refusing to speak on the burning issue of women’s safety in the state, in light of a college student stabbed to death by her stalker outside her college.
Kamal Haasan, Rajini’s contemporary in cinema, who also recently announced his entry to politics, had said then that he will not criticise Rajinikanth the individual, but will criticise his party’s ideology and politics if he does disagree with it in the future.
Earlier, speaking to reporters in Rishikesh, Rajini responded to Kamal’s statements saying, “I have not become a full-time politician. I have not announced my party. I don’t want to talk anything about politics (now).”
