CHENNAI: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to Tamil Nadu to attend the foundation-laying ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), protests erupted not just in India, but worldwide.
The hashtag #GoBackModi became the top worldwide trend on Twitter. #TNWelcomesModi was no match to the hashtag #GoBackModi. #GoBackModi had received nearly 4 lakh tweets while #TNWelcomesModi had only 1,47,000 tweets posted under the hashtag.
The Tamilians vented their anger over his refusal to visit the state when it was ravaged by cyclone Gaja that left more than three lakh homeless, destroyed and crops and over 11 lakh trees uprooted by the nature’s fury last year.
Thousands shared an illustration with the Tamil Nadu map outline bearing the message ‘Go Back Modi,’ while a local farmer is seen disparagingly kicking the PM out of the state.
#GoBackModi is trending at no. 1 from last 12 hours.
