Goa: Nigerian national arrested for possession of drugs, invalid passport

Calangute (Goa) [India]: Goa’s Calangute Police on Tuesday arrested a Nigerian national with illegal possession of narcotics substance, Ganja, in a narcotic raid conducted at the Baga beach.

The accused has been identified as Chris, aged 28.

Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi said that “he got information from his sources about the accused moving around the Baga beach selling drugs. A team was formed immediately and a narcotic raid was conducted. During the raid, Ganja worth Rs. 5,000 in the international market was seized”.

The accused person has been booked under section 20(b)(ii)(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS Act).

“The accused did not possess a valid passport or any travel document. On illegally residing in India, the Nigerian is also booked under sections 3(2)(a), sections 6(a) of Passport entry into India rules Act, sections 3 and 4 of the Passport Entry Act and section 7(3)(iii) of the Foreigners order Act R/w section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946,” he added.

The Nigerian will soon be produced in court for remand. Meanwhile, further investigations on both the offences are being carried out under the supervision of PI Jivba Dalvi.

The police team involved Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Prajit Mandrekar, PSI Mayur Bandekar, police constables Prasadhan Talkar, Goraksh Shetkar, Krutesh Kalshavkar and other staff. (ANI)
