Goa DGP Muktesh Chander tweets appealing people to boycott ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’

Goa’s Director General of Police Muktesh Chander has appealed people to boycott Karan Johar’s latest film “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” for allegedly insulting legendary playback singer Mohammad Rafi.

Chander is upset over the dialogue in the movie which allegedly equates singing of Rafi to crying. In the film, Anushka Sharma is seen telling Ranbir Kapoor, “Mohammad Rafi? Woh gaate kam, rote zyada the na?”

The singer’s family has taken objection to the dialogue in the movie which was embroiled in a controversy before its release as it featured Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.

“Md Rafi was one of the greatest singers of India and needs no certificate from anyone. If you are a Rafi fan, boycott this movie,” Chander tweeted.

The 1988 batch IPS officer, who is posted as Director General of Police also quoted a national newspaper report which has interviewed Shahid Rafi, the son of the late singer.

Chander could not be contacted for his comment despite repeated calls and text messages while his office confirmed that he is in Delhi to attend official meeting.

The movie had earlier faced protests when MNS had raised a flag against the presence of Pakistani artists in Indian films.

The stand-off between MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Johar was resolved after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis struck a truce between them.
