Goa Assembly committee for special cell to track Naxals

Panaji, July 29: Ad hoc committee of Goa Legislative Assembly today stressed the need for a special cell to monitor possible Maoist activities in the State.

The committee headed by Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar in its report on Home Affairs tabled before the House said there was a need to keep a check on the activities of labourers and immigrants working in the mining and tourism industries in the state.

“The committee recommends that the police department create a special cell to keep track of movement of workers and immigrants from areas known to be Naxalite (Maoist) infested,” the report said.

Goa Police had recently arrested Sambu Beck, leader of Orissa-based Maowadi Trishul Manch, who was hiding in the state.
