G.O. for reservations likely today, fear of exceeding 50%

Hyderabad, June 07: State Govt. has decided to issue a G.O. for reservation of 60.55 % posts for the weaker sections whereas the Supreme Court ruling is not to exceed 50% reservations.

State Election Commissioner had already declared earlier that he won’t ratify the G.O. if the reservations exceed 50% limit fixed by the Supreme Court.

Since the Govt. cannot reduce the quota for S.Cs and S.Ts, Govt is under pressure to minimize the reservation for B.Cs. All the political parties are opposing any reduction in B.Cs. quota.

Chief Minister has instructed the Minister for Panchayathi Raj to issue the G.O., without reducing B.Cs/ quota. Secretary, Pancharayathi Raj Dept., will issue G.O., today. Government had provided reservation to Muslims in Municipal elections. It is expected that the same system would be followed in Panchayat Elections also.
