GMR refuses to reduce user charges for Hajj pilgrims

A review meeting was held at Hajj house yesterday to take stock of the arrangements for Hajj season of 2013. GMR management is collecting Rs. 1800 from every outgoing passenger from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Hyderabad.

The meeting was attended by minister of Minorities Welfare Mr. Ahmedullah, Secretary of Minorities Welfare Mr. Ahmed Nadeem (IAS), Maulana Syed Ghulam Afzal Biyabani, Chairman of AP State Wakf Board and other officials.

It may be noted that the airport has been constructed on Wakf land. The management of GMR had given 50% concession in user charges to Hajj pilgrims last year. This year they refused to do so. In this way GMR is collecting Rs. 1,40,40,000 from Hajj pilgrims every year.

Mr. Ahmedullah assured that this year better arrangements would be made for Hajj pilgrims. He also said that the accommodation problem in the Rubath of Makkah would be sorted out in 2 days. Central Hajj Committee is in touch with the officials of H.E.H. The Nizam Wakf Committee. Mr. Ahmedullah said that the tenders for various arrangements like catering, erection of tents etc. have been finalized. Bombay Mercantile Bank has been given the responsibility of arranging for the Hajj pilgrims.

Mr. Ahmed Nadeem told that the construction of New Hajj House near the Airport may take 2 years time. The media persons present in the meeting suggested that if the present Hajj house is properly used, the wont be any need for the construction of new Hajj house. Prem Kumar Station Manager Saudi Airlines, Mr. Mohammed Wajid Ali Saudi Airlines, Mr. Syed Javeed (Duty Manager, Jet Airways), Mr. Suresh Pillay, Dr. C.H. Lavanaya, Medical Officer, Mr. Azher Ahmed, Depot Manager RTC Mehdipatnam, Mr. K. S. Shah Wali, Depot Manager Musheerabad and Shaik Basha. Mr. M.A. Ghaffar Incharge CEO of Wakf Board also attended the meeting.

Bombay Mercantile Bank would provide 2100 SR/- to Hajj pilgrims.
