GMR Hyderabad International Airport Celebrates Festival of Lights

Hyderabad: GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) is celebrating ‘The Joy of Festivals’ this Diwali at Hyderabad Airport. Ushering Diwali – the festival of lights, the Hyderabad Airport is all decked up in the colorful lights and frills with several exciting passenger engagement activities on the rolls at the terminals. The airport, which is now catering to around 40,000 passengers on a daily basis, is resonating with delightful festive ambience even when a passenger enters the airport approach road.

The rotaries at the airport are dazzling with strobe lights and electric candles. At the rotaries, one can witness the giant diya with glittering colourful balls which provide a surreal sight for the visitors and passengers in the hours of night. At the terminal – areas such as Airport Village, domestic arrivals, departures, check-in area, security hold area, retail and food & beverages sections are all glittering with festive decorations. Offers like ‘stand a chance to win a car’ are engaging passengers to explore retail sections of the airport.

At the terminal, passengers are finding various new innovative activities quite attractive. Some of the key activities which the passengers are enjoying a lot include – pottery making activity; mehdi art; diya painting among other activities. Passengers can take away the diyas which they paint or the pottery artifacts they make – making their engagement at the airport even more memorable and worth cherishing.

The airport has been also contributing itself towards raising awareness on social causes such as Breast Cancer Awareness campaign for the entire October month. The airport also celebrates Environment Day, Earth Day, Safety Day among many other such events and activities.

As a gateway of choice for South & Central India, the airport has recorded a robust traffic growth in its 8th year of its operation. In the last one year, RGIA has catered to 14 Million passengers, resulting in a growth of 20% YoY. The airport has featured among the top 3 airports in its category (5-15 Million Passengers Per Annum) in Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey by Airports Council International (ACI) for last 7 years in a row.
