World’s second largest auto manufacturer General Motors has cleared the decks for the introduction of its all-new sports utility vehicle Trailblazer priced at Rs 26.4 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
The Trailblazer, which is a premium SUV brought into India as a completely built unit, is one of the 10 new products slated for launch in next five years. GM hopes to reverse its fortunes in the country based on these launches. It will be the ninth Chevrolet model on sale in India.
The heavy SUV is powered by a 2.8 litre, 4 cylinder diesel engine which can produce peak power of 200hp. The vehicle uses a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
GM tied up with online giant Amazon allowing customers to book the Trailblazer on Amazon.in until October 25, 2015. A Chevrolet dealer will deliver the car at your place of desire.
The Trailblazer gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which can be linked to a smartphone through an app for internet radios like Tunein. It also gets USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity.
It also gets leather seats, automatic outside mirrors and cruise control. In addition it sports four 12V sockets, AC vents for the second and third row. It also gets two front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, hill descent control, traction control, ESC and cornering brake control.
GM is targeting one of Toyota’s best-selling products Fortuner which clocks 1,300 units a months and is priced at Rs 24.17 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Fortuner has a market share of 77 per cent of the premium SUV market.
Other models in this segment include Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero, Honda CRV, Hyundai Santa Fe, Isuzu MU-7, Mahindra Rexton, Renault Koleos.
The segment has seen a contraction in the first six months of this year to 10,803 units, a drop of 10 per cent as against 12,014 units sold in the same period last year, as per data shared by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.
