Srinagar, September 07: Glowing tributes were paid here today to the ruling National Conference founder and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on the eve of his 28th death anniversary.
A function would be held at Sheikh’s mausoleum in Naseembagh tomorrow to mark the occasion, official sources said.
Remembering the founding leader, Governor N N Vohra recalled his notable contribution to the development of the state especially his pioneering work in field of land reforms.
“He was a tall and visionary leader who nurtured a dream of peace, progress and prosperity in all parts of Jammu and Kashmir,” Vohra said in a message.
“Sheikh had worked with eminent national leaders, like Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and strived throughout his life for strengthening the cherished values of secularism and democracy and socio-economic advancement of the people of J&K”, Vohra said.
