Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Minister today urged the Centre to allot six crore working days under Employment Guarantee Scheme to Telangana State.
The minister held a high-level meeting and discussed on the issues related to works being taken up, progress in reaching the targets and payment of bills through the scheme. He asked the officials concerned to pursue with the Centre and get more working days for the State as the works of the previously given 10 crore working days are on fast pace. So far the government spent Rs 1330 crore for the works under the scheme and asked the officials to make payments for wages and for material.
“Banks and Post Office officials should conduct a meeting to coordinate to avoid delay in payment of bills for the works” he said. Krishna Rao also asked the officials to finish the target of constructing three lakh individual toilets in two months and payment of pending bills and wages to the workers. The Minister also asked the officials to make arrangements for new offices for the new districts to be formed besides taking preventive measures to contain the spread of viral and contagious diseases. Special focus should be made on sanitation, drinking water and maintenance of roads and basic amenities, he added. (NSS)
