New Delhi, January 01: Police officers displaying exceptional courage in their onerous duty should not be barred from getting out-of-turn promotions, Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has held while recommending the incentive to a Delhi police inspector.
Citing a Delhi High Court order, the Tribunal said there was no restriction on the number of out-of-turn promotions for a deserving police officer.
The Tribunal was hearing a plea of Inspector Akhileshwar Yadav who showed exceptional courage with his team members in cracking the kidnapping case of a minor in 1998 within 24 hours.
While the rest of his team members– head constable and constable, were given out-of-turn promotions, the same was denied to him.
Yadav approached the Tribunal, seeking a direction to the Police Commissioner to treat him at par with that of his colleagues who got out-of-turn promotion. He was, however, recommended for the Asadharan Karya (extraordinary act) Puraskar for the same act.
The Tribunal said the officer had played a more pivotal role in solving the case.
“It is quite apparent that the role of Yadav from amongst his team was far more prominent and he, as a team leader, played a pivotal role in restoring the child to his parents,” the CAT headed by Chairman V K Bali said.
