Give internet access to kids under adult supervision: Hyderabad schools

Hyderabad: Keeping in view the negative impact of mobile phone use by students, schools in the city have been sending circulars to parents asking them to keep a tab on children’s activity on computer and mobile devices.

Schools have already placed a ban on mobile phones in schools, now they are asking parents to monitor their wards’ surfing at home, too.

In a circular issued by St Ann’s High School, Secunderabad, the school has expressed concern over gaining popularity of social networking sites among the growing children and the risks involved in them, like online bullying, disclosure of personal information, cyber stalking, access to inappropriate content and child abuse. It also cautioned against the kind of words and symbols used by the kids on WhatsApp, Facebook and other sites.

Other schools including Delhi Public School have also advised parents to give internet access to kids only under supervision.

The Crime Investigation Department of Telangana State is also concerned about the rise in online crimes against children due to increase in use of Internet and cell phones by them. It is conducting conferences on safety against online child sexual abuse.
