Hyderabad, November 27: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday advised the journalists to give importance for credibility of news instead of sensationalisation to increase their ratings and popularity.
Inaugurating the 3-day long 7th annual meeting of the Indian Journalists Union at Image Gardens in Madhapur, the Chief Minister said that people have started losing their faith and interest in watching news due to lack of credibility and authenticity.
Reiterating that credibility was important for any politician or media organisation, he said that once they lose credibility, the survival of organization becomes questionable. People who stand by their moral values and ethics would have the ability to survive in any field, he pointed out.
‘The media has failed to highlight the problems being faced by people and instead, diverted its attention to other flimsy issues,’ he said.
‘Sometimes even the headline and news content do not match,’ he pointed out. He asked the journalists to set a clear demarcation between views and news instead of confusing their readers or viewers.
Stating that the government has been taking all steps for the welfare of journalists, Kiran Kumar suggested electronic media to take steps for banning telecast of horror and objectionable scenes in their programmes as they spoil tender minds and their career.
He also suggested media to pinpoint administrative lapses in the implementation of government programmes and schemes and suggest remedial measures.
Information and Public Relations Minister D K Aruna briefed about the welfare measures taken by the state government for the journalists. Legislative Council Chairman A Chakrapani, Indian Journalists Union president S N Sinha, IJU Secretary General D Amar, AP Working Journalists Union president Somasunder, General Secretary Y. Narender Reddy and others were present in the programme.
About 400 journalists from different states attended the meeting.
