A desperate Samajwadi Party is trying to shore up its Muslim support in Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav says he’s ready to join hands with the Congress, if the latter agrees to give 18 per cent reservation to Muslims.
Muslim votes will play a crucial role in the last two phases of Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh.
SP earlier claimed that they would win 40 of the 55 Uttar Pradesh Assembly constituencies that went to polls in the first phase.
Taking a dig at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, Opposition Samajwadi Party on Saturday said her tenure was marred with corruption and there was no parallel anywhere to the scams like NHRM and MNREGA.
Addressing an election rally at Pahasu town on Saturday, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav described Mayawati’s tenure in the state as “Mafia rule”, and claimed “there was no parallel anywhere to scams like NHRM and MNREGA.”
Various schemes failed to serve their purpose in the state due to the anomalies, said the SP state chief.
While pulling Congress for its claim of providing high share of reservation to minority community, the SP leader said, “party will support Congress if the latter gave 18 per cent reservation to Muslims in government services.”
Ridiculing Chief Minister’s decision of dismissing several of her cabinet ministers for graft, Akhilesh said why did she take 45 months to realise that half of her ministers were corrupt.
