Girls drugged, thrown in canal by their parents for having boyfriends

Ludhiana: In an honour killing case an auto driver and his wife allegedly drugged their two teenage daughters and threw them into the canal after they suspect that the teenagers have boyfriends without their permission said the police on Wednesday.

According to Deccan Chronicle, 15-year-old Jyoti, one of them died while her sister Priti survived. Both were found floating by a passerby at the Sidhwan canal near Barewal bridge in Ludhiana. They were rushed to hospital where Jyoti passed away.

Parents Uday Chand and Laxmi were charged with the murder and attempted murder case by the police.

The girls were studying in Grade 10 and returned home late on Monday night which gave confirmation to their parent’s doubt that they were in relationships says the police.

Sub-Inspector Davinder Sharma said, “Her father offered them food laced with drugs. When they lost consciousness, their parents threw them in a canal,” parents also strangled Jyoti before throwing her into the canal.

Priti, who survived said that she is an orphan and begs for food near the temple and after eating the food given by some stranger she became unconscious.

However, continuous questions were asked to her to which she girl narrated the incident and police is in search of their parents.
