Punita Singh a 10- year- old girl was forced to drink her own urine as a punishment for bedwetting by her hostel warden. The inhuman punishment had traumatized little Punita, student of class V and she refused to go the school because of fear and embarrassment. Her school warden was arrested and later suspended by the university authorities.
Though the Visva Bharati University’s Patha Bhavan school authorities made apologies and appealed her parents to send the girl to the school, atleast as day-boarder and they also assured that such incident will not be repeated but Punita Singh’s parents preferred to send her to Bolpur Girls’ High School in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
According to her father, Manoj Mistri, the sub- divisional officer helped him for Punita’s admission in the new school. The decision has been taken with Punita’s consent.
