Girl who killed dad for rape attempt exonerated

A 19 year old girl, student of BSc Computer Science, murdered her father last year when he attempted to rape and kill her. She lost her mother five years ago and was living with her father and a brother. The Madras high court, has quashed the case against her and set her off.

The court justified her act saying that when a girl is put in a situation where she is about to be raped by her father, she would use any weapon available in an attempt to protect her modesty.

On May 17, 2011, when the girl was alone in the house in Mangadu, Chennai, the girl to her horror, noticed that her drunk father was making sexual advancement towards her. When she pleaded with him and resisted his overtures, her father picked up a knife attempted to kill her. The desperate girl reached for a knife and stabbed him to death. The debauched father died on the spot.

The girl was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Mangadu inspector of police M Azhagu, who investigated the case, concluded that she committed the offence in self-defence.
