After being reprimanded by her teacher, a 14-year-old girl student allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday .
P Lakshmi Devi was a Class IX student in the Zila Parishad High School at KS Palle in Giddalur mandal. The teacher, on invigilation duty, thought that the girl was eating chocolate while writing the unit test in the school allegedly scolded her for keeping chocolate in her mouth when he noticed a bulge in the student’s cheek.
Parenthetically, the girl was not eating chocolate and her cheek had swollen because of an infection. The girl set herself ablaze after returning home. Neighbours immediately took her to the hospital where she died. She had sustained 60 per cent burns.
