Hyderabad, February 28: A first-year B.Com student died reportedly due to overdose of medicines in the early hours of Sunday. P. Pranitha (18) of Borabanda gulped four tablets for headache on Saturday night and stayed awake till early hours of Sunday for completing her project report. She, however, developed complications around 5 a.m. following which the girl’s parents shifted her to a nearby hospital where doctors advised them to take her to another hospital at Ameerpet.
With doctors refusing to admit her, the family members rushed her to NIMS where the staff declined to admit the girl saying that doctors were not available as it was Sunday. They later shifted Pranitha to Gandhi Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
“The girl could have died due to overdose of tablets. However, the exact reasons behind the death could be ascertained only after getting the autopsy report,” said Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar Sub-Inspector V. Anand Kumar.
According to police, the girl was studying in a college at Nampally. The management told Pranitha that she might be ineligible to appear for exams if she fails to submit the project report. She also did not have the requisite attendance. Accompanied by her mother, she went to the college on Saturday and explained to the principal about the family’s financial problems. Pranitha said that she could not come to the college as she was working in a super market to support her family. The principal responded positively and suggested her to submit the project report by Monday. After meeting the principal, she returned home and gulped some tablets to get relief from severe headache but developed complications in the morning.
