Pune: A 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself with a country-made revolver at her residence in Baramati in Pune district, police said today.
The incident took place on Saturday evening, police said adding that depression could be the reason behind her extreme step.
The deceased, Sayali Mansingh Bali, was a student of Class XI in a Baramati-based college.
“The victim seemed to be under depression. We found her notebook, in which she has written that she was not getting as much attention and love in the family as her younger brother, who studies in Class X,” a police officer with Baramati police station said.
“We spoke to her brother. However, he denied that there was any dispute between the deceased and the parents over the issue of attention and love,” the officer added.
The father of the deceased serves in the army and is currently posted in Sikkim.
“Last evening, when her mother was outside and her brother was watching television in the hall, the deceased allegedly shot herself in the forehead in the bedroom, in which she died on the spot,” the officer said.
He added that the revolver we found at the spot, is country-made and is without licence.
“We are investigating from where the revolver was procured. We will also speak to the father about the weapon once he reaches home,” the officer said.
Further investigation into the case is on.
