Girl rescued from Tirumala valley after 4 days

Tirupati, September 27: In what could be described as a miracle, the 20-year old girl who

had accidentally fallen into the deep valley of Avachari Kona, near Mokali Parvatam of Tirumala Hills four days ago, was today found alive and safe but with a fractured hand.

Pilgrims, who heard cries of help from below in the evening, alerted the vigilance and security who rescued the girl and took her to the SVR Ruia Hospital. With the information provided by the girl, identified as Jayanthi of Melaiahgaripalle village in Rompicherla mandal, her brother Murali, who runs a shop on Tirumala, was informed of the development. According to doctors, she sustained an injury on the left hand and was very weak and undernourished.

Speaking to mediapersons, Jayanthi, who did MA at a Madanapalle college, said she had come to Tirumala to meet her brother and discuss

her problems. “My parents were trying to marry me off and were not

interested in letting me pursue further studies. I wanted to take my brother’s help,’’ she said while dismissing the talk of a love affair being the reason for the ‘suicide attempt’.

“After viewing the valley from the viewpoint I turned to return. But I lost balance, fell backwards and slipped into the valley. With my hand aching I shouted for help. I was semi-conscious and could hear people talk and look at me in a bid to rescue me. Later, there was heavy rain and I was drenched. It was terrible and horrible,’’ she recalled.

Tirumala police registered a case and are investigating.
