Girl recorded statement: ‘went with (Muslim) youth willingly’

The 18-year-old girl who was missing for over 80 days Tuesday recorded her statement in the presence of the chief judicial magistrate saying that She went willingly.

After the girl went missing from her house in Muradabad, the State BJP members protest a dharna alleging that the girl kidnapped by the youth.

However the girl has denied she was kidnapped, and said she had left with the Muslim youth willingly because her father did not like her association with him and often scolded her.

She also said her father was trying to marry her off to someone else,” South 24 Parganas SP, Sunil Choudhury said.

The girl refused to go with her father after her father submitted a plea to take his daughter, saying she would be beaten up and her father would marry her to someone else,

“We are verifying her statement. Unless there’s a need, we won’t call the youth for questioning,” the police said. “She has been kept at a home in Sonarpur,” Choudhury added.

TMC’s Sudip Bandopadhyay criticised BJP for “desperately trying to create an issue out of it”. “But they have been exposed.”

State BJP president Rahul Sinha, however, alleged that the police were trying to shield the offenders who, he said, are “leaders of Trinamool Congress”.
