Girl raped by engineering student in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an engineering student of a private college after she was made to consume liquor at a Hukkah centre in Ghatkesar area here, police said today.

The main accused Harish, along with three other engineering students besides the owner of the Hukkah centre have been arrested, they said.

On November 2, the girl, a diploma student, studying at the same college where the accused and his friends study, was taken to a Hukkah centre by the engineering students and forced her to drink alcohol and smoke hukkah, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Malkajgiri Division) G Sundeep told PTI.

“Later she was taken to an isolated place where Harish allegedly raped her while others helped him,” the ACP said, adding the accused were known to her.

The victim later went to her native village and informed her father that she was made to consume liquor and smoke Hukkah.

Her father came to Hyderabad and lodged a complaint with police after which a case under section 376 (rape), 366 (kidnap) of IPC and relevant sections of POCSO Act and SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered, the senior police officer said, adding the girl was sent medical examination.

Apart from Harish, Ghatkesar police arrested Ajay, Sameer, Hemanth and Abbas, who is the owner of the Hukkah centre, he said.
