West Bengal, August 09: A girl was stripped, thrashed and forced to walk nude for 8km for her alleged affair with a boy from another community.
This was a shocking reminder of the Guwahati incident in November 2007 when a teenager was stripped and molested by a mob during an ethnic clash.
According to Times of India report, police were astonished to learn that local bodies knew very well about the incident that took place in broad daylight four months back. But the village authorities turned deaf to the girl’s plea.
It is only when the administration came to know of the MMS that police swung into action on their own and arrested five of the culprits on Sunday Aug 8.
Hundreds of men even molested her and took video from their cellphones. A large crowd followed her beating drums and thrashing her with sticks whenever she stops and the tortured went for hours.
Some journalists raised the issue to SP Humayun Kabir and DM Saumitra Mohan demanding for severe punishment against the culprits.
