Hyderabad, July 14: Allegedly threatened by her boyfriend, a minor girl ended her life at Pahadisharief. The girl, S Shanti (17), was a resident of Venkatapur in Saroornagar mandal on the outskirts of the city. Police said Shanti fell in love with a person K Mahender, of the same locality nearly five months back. Shanti reportedly gave Rs 11,000 as a loan to Mahender two months ago.
Her parents came to know about her relationship with Mahender and the loan she gave him. They asked her to demand her money back and end the relationship.
According to the police, Mahender declined to give back the money and in turn threatened to tarnish her image by spreading the word that they had planned to elope. “Mahender allegedly threatened to damage Shanti’s reputation in the locality which might have forced the girl to end her life,’’ police said.
Depressed, Shanti doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze yesterday evening. She died in the night while being treated.
Police registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to commit suicide) against Mahender and launched a hunt to nab him.
Meanwhile, a B Tech graduate hanged himself at his house in Rajendranagar today morning reportedly due to ill-health. Mani Kumar (22) was a resident of Bandlaguda.
