Girl dies in school, CM orders probe

Patna: A minor girl died in West Champaran after she fell into a boiling pot in which food was being prepared for the school mid-day meal and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today ordered a probe into the incident.

The incident took place in the government middle school at Gaunaha, about 50 km from the district headquarter Bettiah, yesterday when the class two girl fell into the boiling pot while playing near the spot where food was being cooked and was badly scalded.

She was admitted to a hospital at Bettiah where she succumbed to her injuries today, its deputy superintendent Arun Kumar said.

Expressing grief over the tragedy, Kumar said action would be taken against those found guilty and instructed senior district civil and police officials to visit the spot to inquire into the incident.

He also ordered that Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia be paid to the kin of the girl.
