Girl arrested for attempt to murder, robbery

Mumbai, July 11: A 16-year-old girl, a compounder at the clinic of a Ghatkopar-based doctor, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting the doctor with a razor blade and stealing Rs 2000 from the clinic. The incident happened at the doctor’s clinic on Ganesh Lane, Ghatkopar (West). The injured doctor is recuperating in a hospital. Police said they have booked her for attempt to murder and robbery.

“Dr Harish Tolia (53) employed the girl six months ago. On Saturday noon, she came with her aunt who reportedly had stomach ache. However, after the aunt left, the girl pulled a razor blade and slashed the doctor’s neck before fleeing with the money. The doctor was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where we recorded his statement,” said Inspector C Puri of the Ghatkopar police station.

Police arrested the girl a few hours later and are interrogating her on the motive behind the act.

“The girl had told the doctor about her lover affair with a youth and that she was depressed as he was unwilling to continue with it. She also told Dr Tolia that she was planning to commit suicide. Fearing the girl would harm herself, the doctor informed about the issue to her parents,” said a police officer of the Ghatkopar police station.

However, the girl had quit the job and the youth had incessantly pestered her to return a sum of Rs 1000 to him, which she had allegedly taken from him. “Desperate for money and enraged at the doctor for speaking to her parents, she came to the clinic, assaulted him and fled with money amounting to Rs 2000,” said the officer.
