Sirsa, December 09: A 19-year-old girl has alleged that parents beat her up on Thursday when she refused to marry a 50-year-old man in Sirsa city. The girl, pursuing her BBA course (bachelor of business administration), somehow managed to escape, taking the help of a neighbour.
Reena Rani (name changed), is a student of a private college here and resident of Kahirpur area of Sirsa city. On Thursday, she had gone to her house from college hostel to bring some warm clothing.
Reena, who has been admitted in intensive care unit, said, “When I reached home to take my clothes, my mother and father were sitting in a room with an old man of about 50 years. They asked me to agree to marry him, but I refused. As the old man went out of the house, my mother and father started beating me up. My father put my chunni around my neck and tried to hang me,” she added.
“My father is a farmer in Gujarat and spends most of his time there. He visits here occasionally,” she said. Later on, the girl fell unconscious.
SHO, city police station, Suresh Pal, said, “We are recording the statement of the girl, after which further action would be taken.”
