Ghulam Ali makes his acting debut with Hindi feature film “Ghar Wapsi”

New Delhi: Ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali, whose several concerts were cancelled recently due to protests, by Shiv Sena is now prepared, to make his acting debut with Hindi feature film “Ghar Wapsi”, directed by Suhaib Ilyasi.

He has also lent his voice to a patriotic song for the movie. Ghulam Ali is in New Delhi to dub his portion of the film on Tuesday and he was very excited. He said, “If I keep on doing this for three to four more days, I can be a (professional) actor. I guess singing is very easy,”he added. He took up the acting assignment for Ilyasi, whom he considers as a “younger brother”.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee invited Ali to perform in Kolkata, a day after his concert in Mumbai was called off three months ago following threats from the Shiv Sena.

He accepted the invitation and performed in Kolkata. His famed ghazal ‘Chupke Chupke Raat Din’ in his inimitable style in a duet with son Aamir to thunderous applause from thousands in the enraptured audience at a concert.

Ali sang the song Apni mitti ki khushboo hain rago mein yeh basi hai…choomenge isko shaan se. Humko toh pyaara hain yeh watan, apni jaan se .” in Ghar Wapsi,

The film also stars Alok Nath, Farida Jalal, Reema Lagoo, Deepak Tijori and Zarina Wahab. It also includes the works
of singers like Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam and Shaan.

“I hope the Ghar Wapsi music launch will be smooth and successful without any hiccups,” said Mr Ilyasi. He also added “India and Pakistan’s relations are improving. Both the country’s governments and prime ministers are politically inclined to bring people of the two nations closer. Music, art and culture play a pivotal role in mending ties,” he said.
