GHMC to relocate Religious structures

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Metro Rail officials are planning to relocate the religious structures in the middle of the roads hampering widening of arterial routes in view of construction of Metro Rail.
Responding to the efforts of traffic police, several religious committees have come forward to relocate the structures or give some of the area for road widening.

Taking the initiative, GHMC officials conducted a meeting with Metro Rail authorities, religious committees and city traffic police in the first week of May to discuss the road widening issues and the religious structures which were in the middle of the roads.

In the first sector, the GHMC had identified as much as 11 structures which were obstructing the MR corridor from Maitrivanam junction to Lakdikapool junction. “The religious heads of Panjagutta Mosque have accepted to give away 800 sq yards of land for road widening. When we explained to them the inconvenience being caused to the public, they immediately agreed to our request,” the DCP said.

“There are two religious structures near Nirankari Bhavan — one is a temple and the other is a graveyard. The temple authorities rejected relocation but the authorities at the graveyard agreed to build a ramp through the open place.

After the completion of this segment, the stretch from Nirankari Bhavan to MJ Market would be taken up. “Nearly 30 structures are there in the metro corridor up to Chaderghat. We are hopeful that religious committees will accept our proposals,” the DCP said.
