GHMC staff demand apology from corporators

Hyderabad, April 09: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials and employees met minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, M Maheedhar Reddy and chief secretary SV Prasad today and demanded all GHMC corporators should apologise to the GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma for their rude behaviour.

If their demand is not met within three days, all employees would go on agitation and stall sanitation works, D Srinivas Goud, joint commissioner and president, Telangana Gazetted Officers Union said. On Friday, all staff had gone on a pen-down strike in protest.

Goud said their main demand was the minister should take action against corporators who had insulted the commissioner in the general body meeting. He said insulting Sharma was insulting the entire GHMC staff which would not be accepted.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Maheedar Reddy and SV Prasad said the government would take necessary action in this regard.

Meanwhile, all Congress corporators today strongly demanded the state government to transfer the GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma immediately.

“We don’t want such an adamant officer who works against the interests of the corporation and insulted the general body by walking out from the council meeting. We will not keep quiet till he is transferred from the post,” Congress floor leader Kaleru Venkatesh said.

Congress corporators also found fault with employees going on pen-down strike. They clarified the issue took place during the meeting and has nothing to do with them.
