The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to hasten up the construction of Model Markets in the city at a cost of Rs. 300 crore.
So far, tenders have been called for construction of 165 Model Markets. Of them, 119 tenders have also been finalized. As many as 59 Model Markets would be taken up in a fast-mode. The GHMC is planning to construct Model Markets in areas having a population of more than 10,000 people. As against the population of over 1 crore people, there are just 30 markets in the city which are proving to be insufficient.
The GHMC will be spending around Rs. 50 lakh on the construction of each Model Market. (INN)
