GHMC “retires” 15-year-old vehicles as per RTI Act

Hyderabad: The GHMC Transport Wing has taken a decision to “retire” vehicles which have been used for 15 years as per the RTI Rules and save around Rs 15 crore per year.

GHMC Commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy has taken a lot of initiatives for the uplift of the Transport wing. He said the GHMC has a fleet of 773 vehicles out of which 134 were light vehicles i.e., the vehicles which are being used by the officials for day-to-day activities. The Commissioner said the GHMC was transporting 5000 mt of garbage everyday to transfer stations where 494 vehicles are being used for the purpose.

The GHMC had procured vehicles for its officers during 2006 and 2007 when it formed seven new circles in the core area and 12 in the circle of peripheral municipalities. Now, the GHMC has 30 Circles and six zones as per the requirement of circles and zones. (NSS)
