GHMC reaches Masjids to spread awareness on diseases

The GHMC is thinking over to engage with mosque managing committees in order spread awareness in an efforts to combat dengue and malaria. This attempt, the corporation hopes, will make people more responsive to instructions issued by officials.

Additional commissioner (health and sanitation) N Ravi Kiran told that assistance of public representatives such as corporator and ward members was taken to enter homes where the health officials of the civic body suspected cases of dengue.

“Our officers were prevented from entering homes on a few occasions in the recent past, which is why we sought the assistance of the community leaders. We will be requesting maulvis and imams of mosques to cooperate with us by announcing over mosque public address systems the anti-malaria and dengue efforts,” Ravi Kiran said.

Acoording to officials suspect, there are at least five cases of dengue in the area and are planning to strengthen the drive. One case, however, turned out to be meningitis.
“We have asked the chief etymologist to lift samples for testing. Further, teams have been stationed here,” said a GHMC official.

There are 30 teams consisting of 60 workers working across the South Zone, he added.

“We told residents not to have articles like tyres or tubes around homes and dispose them of properly. The reason being that larvae require very little water to breed,” said a GHMC health official. “Do’s and Don’t” stickers to combat dengue have been put up at prominent places,” he added.
